BIOGRAPHY: DR. STEGINK GIVEN AWARD IN CALIFORNIA: ANAHEIM, Calif.--Dr. Lewis D. Stegink, associate professor of pediatrics and biochemistry at the University of Iowa, was awarded the 1976 Mead Johnson award at a meeting here of the American Institute of Nutrition. Dr. Stegink, a former Sentinel carrier and parttime employee for the Sentinel of Holland, Mich., was cited for his studies of amino acid metabolism in the infant human and infant animal. He was cited particularly for his work in investigating the reasons for species variation in the neurotoxicity of the dicarboxylic amino acids and for the studies of acid metabolism during intravenous nutrition. Dr. Stegink is a son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Stegink of Holland, Mich. He graduated from Holland Christian High School and received a degree in chemistry from Hope College and master's and Ph.D. degrees in biological chemistry from the University of Michigan. -- THE HOLLAND EVENING SENTINEL, Thursday, 6 May 1976, pg. 15

OBITUARY: Family and friends are invited to celebrate his life at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 2, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, 1300 Melrose Ave., Iowa City. Dr. Stegink, of Iowa City and Solon, died Oct. 19 after a long struggle with Parkinson's disease. He was a graduate of Hope College and the University of Michigan and taught at the University of Iowa from 1967-1996.
